It is a good diesel and lives a long life because it is so detuned in stock form. I mean 250HP from a 444 cube motor is pretty soft. However, if you read heavier truck forums, you'll see the 444 is not as well thought of in medium apps compared to light apps.I don't know i heard the 7.3L was a fine diesel engine lots of supporters, tho i haven't owned one myself i did run a 7.8L Ford Diesel for a few years it done a fine job and so did the 8.3L Cummins i had too . . .
The DT466 with the 7spd did a fine job in the tow wrecker tho it was rolling 19.5's not 22.5's :happymugs

My stock duramax will stomp the snot out of any stock 7.3L, even with 10% less displacement.
I'd rather have a 5.9L than either one in a medium duty just for the stoutness of it. DT-466 is a fine diesel.
