I don't know i heard the 7.3L was a fine diesel engine lots of supporters, tho i haven't owned one myself i did run a 7.8L Ford Diesel for a few years it done a fine job and so did the 8.3L Cummins i had too . . .

The DT466 with the 7spd did a fine job in the tow wrecker tho it was rolling 19.5's not 22.5's :happymugs

It is a good diesel and lives a long life because it is so detuned in stock form. I mean 250HP from a 444 cube motor is pretty soft. However, if you read heavier truck forums, you'll see the 444 is not as well thought of in medium apps compared to light apps.

My stock duramax will stomp the snot out of any stock 7.3L, even with 10% less displacement.

I'd rather have a 5.9L than either one in a medium duty just for the stoutness of it. DT-466 is a fine diesel.

Be that as it may, I have no love for GM-Diesel's the next D-Max could be the best V-8 diesel on the planet producing thousands of horse power lasting billions of miles i wouldn't take it if ya gave it to me :happymugs

I don't know as i would own a Ford diesel either but i would be more inclined to as the ol'7.8L was a fine running Rig for me :thumbsup

The 5.9L ? ! after running an 8.3L and having use a 5.9 loaner not so sure i'd run a 5.9 Medium duty :shrugs
As for the DT466 it worked out great in the 26K LoPro, tho if i were to go with a tall boy turning 22.5's i'd prolly opt for a 9spd :peelout

But all of them truck's are gone now, I'm currently Running by Gas engine powered Rig's . . .

Ummmm, OK. Whatever makes you feel good, but I can tell you as an owner of many different diesel powered units that your bull headed attitude is blocking your road to being the owner of a great diesel engine. I used to be the same way as you, but then i had the opportunity to drive one for a while. Feels like a stroked 454 with about 50% more torque.

I really don't know if a diesel engine for light to light-medium use could be more pleasing to own/operate than the DMAX. I can't wait to get another one.

My little Mid size jeep pickup gets me were i need to go and has no monthly payment for the most part is plenty capable of towing or hauling anything i routinely move around :thumbsup

To buy a $40K+ truck for commuting back n forth would simply be unnecessary ;)

I gave owning a diesel pickup truck a shot, hated every minuet of it and most likely won't purchase another, now if I need a commercial grade medium or Heavy duty Rig then yes i will buy a diesel :thumbsup

But for the little to No medium or heavy hauling i do the 3 Gas powered Commercial trucks will do just fine for the 1-3 loads a year they may haul . . .

I'm no longer a business owner just a working stiff now, For the most part the big trucks are just toys for my amusement ;)

Mike are you basing all of your GM diesel opinion on that 6.5 you had? That explains a lot. LOL

Ain't it AMAZING?
No offense against Mike, but basing your hate for GM diesels because of owning a bad 6.5TD is like basing your hate for a nice flat screen TV's after owning an old Sylvania 19" tv with tubes and rabbit ear antennas. :bdh:bdh:bdh

I had a 6.5TD that wasn't very good either, but eventually I got over it.

Nope the 6.5 didn't have anything to do with it, The only thing the 6.5 did was Sour my opinion of Diesel's as daily Commuters . . .

I drove 2 stock first gen D-Max's tho they were better then the 6.5 they still weren't quick enough to impress me any :happymugs
I'm not in the market right now for a diesel i simply don't need a 2500 or 3500 diesel to drive back n forth to work every :thumbsup

I like my Mid sized short bed Jeep truck just fine
