I want to know the correct way to get my ebpv to quit engaging (other than gutting it, unless absolutely necessary). I have unpugged the sensors on the turbo pedestal and the exhaust sensor on the front of the engine and the damn thing keeps firing up. It's just about to drive me to drinkin'!! Please help............................... -fast_ashley

You will be glad you did it when your done. More room for air flow and you never have to deal with that annoying thing again!:Thumbup:

You will see a very SMALL loss of EGT, not worth the time in my opinion...50 max... You loose the warm-up effect, you loose a great cheap exhaust brake. If it is working right it should not come on but when cold in the mornings... the very reason it is there... If you are unpluging the wires at the bottom of the turbo ped and it (or what you think is it) is still coming on then there is something wrong there. That is the only thing that can make it turn on.

EBPV = Exhaust Back Pressure Valve

It is a flapper valve in the exhaust outlet of the turbo that closes to load the engine and aid in warm up. It also can be used as an exhaust brake like Joe mentioned.

Is there a kit to turn it into a exhaust brake or is it a do it your self job?

You can just wire a toggle switch to the sensor, there are some kits out there though. SP Diesel makes one that has EBPV and TC lock functionality. Although I would avoid them like the plaguge, the product itself is probably OK.

Try cleaning out the EBP sensor tube if you don't want to gut it.

None that I know of. I know Jacobs specifically does NOT make an "engine brake" for our trucks because they were asked not to by International.

Claims are that excessive backpressure can cause "lifter jacking" and collapse lifters.

An engine brake is different than an exhaust brake though, and I have never heard of anyone having problems from an exhaust brake.

so you could hook an tuggle switch up and it will work as a exaust brake ? will it still work properly when it is cold?
