Just seen this where EPA has fined Edge Products $500,000 for selling products that disable/bypass the DPF. Edge is also is required to buy back there products from any one who wants to turn it in.
Who is EPA going after next???
There is no end in sight of big brother intruding on our lives.

They mess with our rights as firearms owners, our trucks, etc. I read somewhere on T.D.G. today abt big brother, if you will, & in the end , there will be bloodshed. A person can only be pushed so far.:ranton. I read an article in diesel World, I believe, that EPA is going after any company that is selling products to "get around epa laws". I wonder how many of the Republicans/conservatives have been asked why they passed the laws in the first place in 2004. I also wonder how many of the people that complain about these laws remember who passed them in 2004? Who was in full control in 2004?

You guys just aren't thinking far enough outside the box. I've been in Commifornia my whole life. I remember when they made emissions inspections state wide in the late 1980s. There was panic and complaining and fear mongering and price gouging on used emissions parts and then we figured it all out. Everything going on in the diesel world now is a repeat of California back then. The funny thing is, because of the way the rules are, if you play nice, you can get emissions exemptions for a lot of different parts and that opens the door to all kinds of fun.

Diesel enthusiasts just haven't pulled their heads out of their holes (you pick the kind of hole) yet and tried to play by the rules. If demand is there manufacturers CAN make legal parts that don't defeat the federally mandated emissions laws. Sure, the parts will cost more to be compliant, but who cares, these new trucks are upwards of $50k, what's $5000 to make the same power $2500 used to without defeating emissions devices.

Wait until they go after all the little guys marketing EGR delete kits and demand accounting records to assess fines. This isn't going to stop at the big guys. Bulletproof diesel as an example, should be registering their upgraded EGR coolers as direct replacements and applying for CARB exemption because their design is not the same construction as the OE part and may be deemed illegal without California's blessing. That's the kind of thing that needs be addressed, and the reason I say get it made CA legal is because CA emissions are tighter than the Fed's, so the Fed honors all CA exempted parts. I started a thread some time ago trying to encourage an aftermarket 3.5" downpipe for 6.0L trucks with a CARB exemption number but it generated no response. Why? No one cared and no one wanted to spend the money to insure they were legal.

None of us want to pay more but the fact of the matter is, we are going to have to.

To the point I've made elsewhere on TDG, :rantonIf all these new regulations are "so good" for the health of everyone,how come the EPA and CARB doesn't go after everyone and treat everybody equally and out-law all private vehicles that don't meet the new standards. Why is poor Joe Blow allowed to continue to drive his pre 1970 or 80's or even 90's vehicle and spew out pollution that we all breath? Why are businesses having to foot the bill to clean up the air? After all clean air is for the benefit of everyone,...is it not?

I am sorry if I offend anyone:gphug, but I am sick and tired :mad:of a few having to pay the price so everyone else can be happy and have clean air to breath. If we were all treated equally, then all is fair. :shrugs

Anyway I am still willing to :happymugs

Idahof350, you make a great point for those who make emission components replacement due to OEM part failure (or improvement in general) that do not have their product listed as a certified replacement is ignorant from the beginning of that parts production. It will only help them, IMO because if you can make reliable parts period, especially for emissions purposes you will grow from there. Especially if you increase a vehicle's performance through innovation. the key is obviously EFFICIENCY no matter what system of the engine you are improving. Not just big companies can have a hand in parts but the small guys as well, the big guys just have the strength to make the part less costly however, they usually make it overseas. Could we see more American made reliable diesel engine replacement parts? I believe so.

Could we create jobs? Yes. You just need the right amount of drive to succeed.

I do not remember the name of the program they had that when you bought a new car they destroyed your old one, it was only 4 years ago. That got rid of a few old junkers.
The pollution laws started in 1970.
I worked at a truck engine dealership when California brought in the first real rounds of pollution laws that they banned certain truck engines, from memory about 1980, that one was suppose to ban engines that were older, I believe it started like say 10 year old engines and every year it was to go to 8 year old then 6, so on it was never implemented. It did put a scare into a lot of trucking companies looking to re-power units with compliant engines.
Canada does not allow you to put an older engine in a newer frame, Gliders kits must have an engine compliant to the registration year.
If you make a modification to an engine that would make it better, I was under the belief that the engine would have to go threw a full set of EPA tests to prove it, that makes it to costly for the smaller business.
I really believe that the trucks of the future will have electrical wheel motors, with a generator, battery back-up to absorb the regenerative power gained going down hills and with computer mapping, fully draining the battery before down grades.
Just a thought!

Cash for Clunkers - it was used to re-boot the US Auto industry and it worked for the most part. It did make a large used parts industry for people looking to keep that 85 Chevy 1/2 ton tooling down the road for another 10 years.

First off, I put 38-40k on my 07 deleted.. Not once did it black out an interesection. Did it blow some black smoke... Very Little. My idea is that if we police our own our sport would not get so much negative attention. Policitics aside we need to education the "kids" that want to "roll coal" from every interesection. Manufactures like Smarty HS and even Edge should step up with more smoke free tuning. Does anyone actually expect to run a 175hp tune and not get smoke with a stock turbo? Didn't think so. I can go on about the political side of things but this is not the place for it, we have a section for that. Wes, the cash for clunkers program included a step that a additive was put in the oil causing the rotating assembly to sieze thus making the engine un usable. That program was very wasteful in that asspect that no care traded in during that program could be used as parts or fixed up for a kids first ride. BTW there was a cherry 96 12v traded in here a local dealer on the cash for clunkers. it had 87k and was trashed. Any preformance part company will be at risk if they market a product to Alter the Emission system. Its sad that the government tells us what we can do to our trucks but it is the time we live in. World wide other countires are going to have to step up and follow suit or the US is simply wasting our time trying to clean up the air.

I agree rolling coal at every intersection gets negative attention way more than positive. I have followed a dodge guy home couple of times with dual chrome stacks rolling coal every time he took off from a stop or passing on the highway. Pretty sure most of the people following him didn't see the coolness and it just gives the rest of us a bad image. Freedoms end once you infringe on others freedoms. Ok close enough line on politics. :danger

On cash for clunkers yes they seized the engine but very few were crushed. Most of the recycling yards around me created a new yard for pull it yourself from all of those vehicles. It was great for my 93 F-250 because I could find all the parts I needed till I sold it for my current truck. Not debating the politics that's what parking lots are for :bdh

Everything is a pendulum as I have posted before. One group pushes it too far one way then it starts swinging back- true in all emotional subjects, politics, religion, light beer, etc. :roflol:

People buy programmers. The people buy from sponcers. They hire people to make them. Everyone is happy! Then the goverment gets involved. They fine the people that make them and they have to lay people off people that make them and sell them.
This is our freedom at risk. The goverment can not do anything! What about the peoplethat lost there health care? Just a goverment lie!!!!!

My 2011 Dodge 2500 longhorn Diesel is the best truck I have ever owned. One problem was I had it back to the Dealer 4 times same thing. They force cleansd the truck each time over 1/4 tank of fuel. The cab stunk!
The last time they flashed my truck with a custom tune. My mileage went down 3 - 4 mpg. When I went back the tech told me to delete it and get a smarty.
I did and the truck is getting much better mpg. No smell in the cab. No more 3000 oil change!
there will always be delete stuff on the internet. Just think there are stills working today!!! They did not shut them dowd.
