Hi,

Does anyone have any technical specifications as to the Ford-New Holland 6.6L and 7.8L in-line six-cylinder turbocharged diesel engines that were produced from 1985 to 1993?

Off the top of my head, the 6.6L was used in the following applications:
F-600 Diesel
F-700 Diesel
B-700 Diesel
CF-6000
CF-7000

From a 1985 Cargo brochure, it lists the 6.6L as having a square bore and stroke of 4.4" for a displacement of 401 cu. in. The peak hp of it is 165 @ 2600 rpm and the peak torque is 388 lb/ft @ 1600 rpm. I know there are other ratings out there for this (and the 7.8L) as well.

And the 7.8L was used in these applications:
B-7000
LN-7000
CF-7000
F-8000
L-8000
LN-8000
LT-8000
LNT-8000
CF-8000
CFT-8000
LTS-8000

If anyone here can please clarify the technical specs for these two diesels, I would appreciate it.

Thank you,

Ben (Gillig8V71)

I use one of the 7.8 at 270hp it is a runner, but I don't know the torque.
Next time i roll the hood over I'll see what's on the valve cover.

Hold on... I know the rest of the early ratings now.

From a 1987 F-Series mediums brochure, I found the following:

6.6L (bore 4.4", stroke 4.4"):
160 hp (49 states): 160 hp @ 2600 rpm, 378 lb/ft tq @ 1600 rpm
170 hp (49 states): 170 hp @ 2600 rpm, 402 lb/ft tq @ 1600 rpm
170 hp (California): 170 hp @ 2600 rpm, 402 lb/ft tq @ 1600 rpm

7.8L (bore 4.4", stroke 5.2"):
185 hp (49 states): 185 hp @ 2600 rpm, 457 lb/ft tq @ 1600 rpm
210 hp (49 states): 210 hp @ 2600 rpm, 509 lb/ft tq @ 1600 rpm
225 hp (California): 225 hp @ 2400 rpm, 593 lb/ft tq @ 1500 rpm
240 hp (49 states): 240 hp @ 2800 rpm, 606 lb/ft tq @ 1600 rpm
