I am new to Diesel's so forgive my ignorance. I going to do my first oil change on my truck this coming weekend. What brand oil and oil filter does everybody use? How often should I change the oil? is it like a car every 3000
miles or can I go every 5 or 6000 miles.

My next question is should I change my fuel filter every time I do an oil change? Where is it? I thought it was under the truck on the frame on the drivers side. I saw "how to" post and it showed that it was on the motor.

I have a 2000 F250 7.3 Any clarifications would be appreciated.

I change oil and filter every 4-5 k. Fuel filter every other oil change, on a rare occasion might drag it out 3 oil changes.

The fuel filter is on top of the engine under the plastic Power stroke cover.
It'l be plastic 4 inch diamiter. you take the lid off and pull out the filter. It will drip fuel so have a pan up on the top side with ya.
Look in the filter housing and make sure there isn't a bunch of crud in there.

Might want to clean the fpr screen too.

I'm running delo 400 15-40 and motocraft oil filter

Here's an article written by Adrian about changing the fuel filter.

As for oil...as long as it has the correct rating you will be fine. Some run Walmart 15w-40 diesel oil with great results. I prefer to run Rotella 15w-40. Delo is a good oil, and so is Mobile.

I change my oil every 5k miles...or 6 months...which ever comes first. I used to change my fuel filter every other oil change. But with my dahl I can go a year before I change the filter...and thats usually just for my comfort.

Oil filters...again its your personal comfort. Motorcraft is the standard and can be found easy enough. Some will run fleet's, others K&N, or Purolators. Me...I'm running Penzoil oil filters that I got 2 for $5. That'll teach Checker not to put restrictions on them. LOL

I would generally use Rotella, but I used to work for an oil company and Mobil Delvac had the best lab results (we were a Mobil Distributor). Exxon XD-3 may be a little easier on the wallet and you are still getting a good name. As far as filters i will be using either Motorcraft or NAPA. Running Motorcraft right now. As far as the Fuel Filter see if you have the stock filter with the cap seperate from the filter body STP came out with a one piece unit (cap and filter made together). Hope that helps some.
