:usflag My 97 says 225 @ 3000 rpm on the passenger side VC. An earlier thread said with that, you will see about 170 at the rear wheels.

Mine says 225 on the sticker. Dyno with mods in sig was 217 at the wheels. His injectors alone will not allow that kind of horsepower.

They were rated at 215 through mid '96 then late '96 and '97 was 225. That is crank ratings as well. Stock they usually do about 170-175ish and with a chip and exhaust and intake they usually do right at the 200-210 range. You can't get any more than that without bigger injectors or propane.

My VC says 215 hp. I have stock injectors (see sig for other mods), but I have put down 250.4 hp (see http://forums.thedieselstop.com/ubbthreads/showflat.php?Cat=0&Number=2835012&page=0&fpart=2&vc=1). In all honesty, it looked a little like a shift spike, but it was pulling about 240 up to that point. Several people commented at that dyno day that I must have had injectors. I drag race it every week, but I deep stage it and leave off idle (which slows it down considerably but makes it more consistent). It runs 17.30's-17.50's in that mode, and has run as quick as 16.80 by shallow staging and leaving with a little bit of boost.

This weekend at the drag races, there were a few other OBS trucks, including two with a bunch of Banks stuff (including intercoolers). I still had the quickest OBS!

Before I bought my truck, I test drove several 1995-1999 trucks (all stock), and the one I bought felt noticeably faster than the others. I've wondered what it is about my truck that makes more HP, but I'm not gonna complain about it!

Did you buy it new? Are you sure someone didn't swap in a set of ABs or something into it? Or maybe just a slightly larger set of single shots?

I bought it from the 2nd owner, who only owned it for a couple of months. He was told that it was bone stock, and it seemed unlikely that someone would have put injectors in without adding gauges, exhaust or anything else (I did all of those mods). It spent the first 220k miles (and 6½ years) of its life towing a small 5th wheel horse trailer between TX and NC. I suppose someone could have replaced injectors as a maintenance step (maybe an unscrupulous shop convinced them that it was necessary), and put different ones in?

Before I added the Edge Evo, I assumed that I just had a better factory PCM flash version than the others. I had heard that some of the later fatory re-flash jobs resulted in lower HP. Since it seems to also make extra HP with the Evo, maybe it does have something else going for it? At the races on Saturday one guy commented that I put down a pretty good smoke trail, and assumed I had aftermarket injectors in order to do that with an OBS...

Michael

You'd be supprised how many people don't know anything about gauges or the other "ground work" and install chips and injectors. It's pretty obvious to anyone who's been on this, or any number of other diesel sites but to people who don't know anything other than what the salesman behind the counter sold them on they don't know any better.

Not saying they did get different injectors. Just saying it's still possible without gauges. Only way to find out is to pull them out and have them checked out while they are being made bigger!
