I'm pretty new here and not sure if this is the best place to post this, but I am looking for a flywheel for a v555 Cummins. engine number 20164228. Cummins part # 203066 for just the flywheel. Cummins part # AR-61144 for flywheel and ring gear assembly. This is for a manual Transmission. I can get one new from Cummins for almost 3 grand! This engine is not worth that, I would repower before sinking 3 grand into this engine. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Sorry your search appears fruitless! I thank some of those maybe available from army surplus truck outfits. Wear rings can be removed, normally, when exposed by tapping on them with a hammer or a hammer and punch. This causes the diameter or the wear ring to increase and releases it from the shaft. If they are up in a hole I normally torch them. Get on the ring itself, they turn orange quick, then trigger a little or use a couple screw drivers or something and pry the ring off. With the second you don't have to worry about junk in the pan. On flywheels with extreme grooves from springs and such we used the weld them up with nickle. It is softer and machines easier. Put some together with big heat cracks and never had a problem. Not recommending that just sharing. Those were fleet trucks that had to go now and did not come back.

Thanks Ten Wheeler: I will have to look into gov. surplus outfits. My son is pretty talented with Mig and Tig welding and we have discussed welding up the cracks. It's good to hear from someone with experience doing that. If I cant find a replacement flywheel by the time my parts come in for repairing the rear main seal I think we will go that route. I have a road I really need to get in and the sooner the better, if the 555 holds together long enough to get that job done I will be happy. We are considering repowering with a Cummins L10 once the 555 lets go, maybe sooner if the timing works out.
