does he have a EGT gauge yet? what exactly did u do to the pump? theres a good bit u can do to a ve pump. and theres plenty of injectors to chose from. how about upgrading the turbo? whats his budget? u can get thee trucks movin pretty good. if he doesn't have a fuel pin. get one. then then crank ur power screw in till its about to run away and back it off a hare. adjust your AFR down abit. then ur goin to want to upgrade ur lift lift. to either a 2nd gen one, a holley blue label, or one of an old 8.3 with a ve pump. get a sweet turbo and sum fat injectors. and u'll be movin. thats what i got and i drive n tow every day on 40''s and get 19 mpg.

good luck

upgrade ur lift lift. to either a 2nd gen one
Do Not use a 2nd gen lift pump. That pump is rated for 30 PSI output. That will push the front seal out of the VE injection pump. You need the lift put off an VE ag engine. That piston pump puts out 15 PSI.

I'm not sure about the holley blue thing. I can pull a Holley black down to 0 psi! And you can fix the whole front seal thing, locktite snap ring and good to go!

Don't get me wrong for everyday driving the blue and/or low lift will be ok, Just letting you know there are more options out there if you want more.

Before he goes to far murder the kdp!! if it hasn't been done.

Timing, 1/8" then 1/4" then jump a tooth. This is free
But warn him on driving with a cold engine. More timing is more cyl pressure. Not good for a head gasket. You won't need to worry about the 1/16" or the 1/8" but much more than that you need to drive like a sane person.

Yes, while I shake my head no. If you are just wanting to do the 1/16 or 1/8 bump then you can do just that. If you are getting critical and after that last few ponies to squeeze out of you truck then yes.
Also He can put his KSB on a hobs switch, to kick in with more that... lets say 15psi of boost. Or on a switch at anything over 3/4throttle. Or just a toggle.
The choice is yours.

Just watch for surging. And tell him to have fun with his extra 2mpg's and lower egt's, also a small amount of boost loss has been noted by some after the timing mod.

He can also shave the afc or get rid of it all together. I don't think anyone should do this but lots do it and say they are putting down more power. I have done it and now I'm back to stock.
What pin is he Running? Home brew or one from a shop?

Your in PA. That means hills. He is towing. The mods you can do towing and keeping EGt's down are few.

Does he have gages installed??

The BD fuel pin is a copy of the old smokey. Grinding your stock pin doesn't add that much fuel. The aftermarket pins go a lot deeper.

Over on DTR is a guy named DennyT that makes fuel pins.

On cumminsforum a member named alwaysworking makes the M&H fuel pin.

The M&H can be had in 5 different profiles. The DennyT is one profile now. It used to be two.
