What MPG do you get when towing?

I am planning a trip this summer that is 4,000 miles and will be towing a 32 foot toy hauler that should weigh about 12k. My MPG seems very low when pulling this trailer, I have only had it a short time but I only see about 7mpg when towing in the mountains. My last toy hauler weighed 10k and I would get 10mpg towing it?

I have tossed the idea around of a new truck but I may still not be happy with the MPG???

What is your tow vehicle?
My 5ver weighs 12,000lbs. Worst I get is 10mpg in mountains and 12.5-13 in the flats. Just did a 4 night trip with 5ver over to coast and back thru mountains. The route has 6 to even a 10% grade with many corners posted at 20mph with a couple even at 15mph on the 8-10% grades. Round trip with a bit of driving without trailer was 10.9mpg.:happymugs

10- 13 mpg with 15,000- 20,000 on the trailer in the hills depending on my driving. But empty I only get 12.5 to 14.5 on a good day also depending on how im driving. But im 9,000lbs empty so add 20,000 plus to that and we are grossing 30,000 and over that some times so 10 to 13 loaded is ok I guess....If you are towing a lot and under 70 mph or in the Mountains the 4.10 will save you fuel and wear and stress on your truck. If you are towing at high way speeds 3.55 will be good and save fuel.

11mpg with 8k behind. that includes the drive to, off roading and hitting the mud pit, then driving back.

10-13 Towing our toyhauler down the interstate at 70 mph. ( about 10,500 lbs loaded) If I run 55 mph I can get 14-15 with the same load.

My 2000 F350 with 7.3 and programmer got about 9 if you towed over 10K. Most times I was about 25K total. It got about 16 empty thanks to 4.11 gears. My IH 4700 gets 9 to 10 with the same load at around 30K to 35K total. Much better brakes and a more confident ride, especially when someone pulls out in front of you. Sounds like you are getting about what should be expected. New truck just to get 1 or 2 MPG better? 50K will buy a lot of fuel!!!!
