well i want black headlights to match the rest of my truck


i really dont want to (and cant afford right now) the harley lights. since there $700 for the pair




the ford econoline and vans use the cheaper lights

as seen in this link below

these will direct fit into my truck i assume right?

and im sure these are only $75 or so each?

i see those all the time running around in company trucks and they are hideous looking.i would try it before i spent the money.

Those are the same lights in the XL Superdutys. I am sure someone would trade with you for free.

Disclaimer-I dont know if this is possible with Fords but its worth looking into as it has been done before to a number of vehicle brands.

It is a DIY mod in which you separate the clear headlight cover from the actual bulb housing by placing the headlights in an oven at a low temp to soften the waterproofing sealant/glue material, enabling you to separate the headlight housing from the clear plastic cover.

Once separated, you can tape off and paint whatever you want, whatever color you want, then re-assemble the headlights using new headlight "glue"...( 3M "Strip-caulk" for example)

Now, I know what you may be thinking, 'Like heck Im gonna put my lights in an oven!"...but i have seen it done many times and if done correctly you can never tell they were taken apart.

they will not fit trust me I had a set in my hand right after I got my truck in September they a wider and taller so i know it sucks !!! :Thumbup:

I have also taken apart a set of our factory light you could remove the amber reflector but all you will see is the innards of the headlight no reflector what so ever.

Bender, if you go to separate the clear lens off of the factory lights, you will need to heat the housings up to 250-300F. The trick with this is to take your time and heat the assemblies numerous times. You will also want to heat the assemblies with the clear lens facing upwards. If you let the clear lens touch the metal of the cookie sheet or the item being used to heat the assembly, it will put a white spot in the lens that you can not remove. TRUST ME!!!!! The closer you can get to 300F, the better off you are. The glue will get softer and make it easier to separate the two halves. The issue comes that the acrylic clear lens also gets softer the closer you get to 300F. For reference, at 350F, the acrylic will turn into warm taffy and will deform on you. Again, I have done lots of playing and know the do's and don'ts. Also, the closer to 300F, the more likely the internal reflector may deform. As long as the reflector remains tightly attached to the inside, you won't have an issue.

If you have more questions, just ask. I'm in the middle of doing a custom set of lights for my truck.

it should right?




yea when it gets warmer out i got alot of work to do

reinstall my train horns

SCT LiveWire Extreme

4" MBRP filter backexhaust with 6" Tip




and i guess paint my lights now :thanks:


(or give up and buy the harley lights):damnit







no body out there works at ford and would get the harley lights for me with there discount would they? :evil:

Be aware that the light you get from the sealed beam lights are lame in my opinion compared to composite head lights which you have now. Just some insight. Chris
