i have my sending unit in the trans line. gauge is not accurate. im told its about 40* hotter there than in the trans and it should be in the pan. I suggest putting it in the pan

can i buy a deeper pan that already has a place for the sender? i thought this would be as easy as removing a plug & inserting the sender.seems like the egt was easier.

You want your sender located at the hottest point in the oil system. The oil leaving your tranny before it gets to the cooler is the actual operating temperature of your transmission. In the pan you are just reading the temp of the cooled oil before it is used again. I would want to know what temp my tranny is operating at, not necessarily the temp of the cooled oil.

The pressure port shown in this pic is the best place for the probe on the ford trannys, this is right after it leaves the TC...
