I am working on a friends truck. We are replacing the Turbo, EGR cooler and Oil cooler. Once I got the turbo out, i noticed that it had re-manufactured stickers on it. This normally would not be odd except that he has never had the truck into Ford for this. The truck has only had an issue with the power steering pump and that was done at a shop here in town, not a Ford dealer. My question is has anyone heard of Ford putting a reman turbo on a brand new truck? Seems odd to me. I can only think that it was Ford trying to save money???

Back in '03, I knew my local dealer pretty well, they couldn't get parts and on more than one occasion pulled them from new trucks on the lot to get a customer back on the road and happy. But, the parts were new not reman that went back on the lot trucks.

Maybe request an Oasis report on the truck and see if it had some sort of pre delivery issue.

FoMoCo would never put a reman on a new production truck at the factory so I would go talk to the dealer and request a thorough history of the truck.

I could see a dealer stealing a turbo to get a customer going but if they put a reman on I would never buy anything from them again.

What year is this truck? Maybe his wife took it in to have the smell or rattle it was making fixed? :tada :roflol: and they put a turbo on it?

The truck is an 06. He bought it brand new from the dealer here in town that went out of business 5 years ago. I would not put it past this dealer to do what you guys suggest. I know that I took my excursion to this dealer many years ago and they messed up my door panel and pulled it off a new excursion. I just think that putting a reman on a new truck is lowdown dirty business!! can we still get an Oasis report on here?

There is a section for posting to try but participation is low.

Good thing they are out of business I'd say they swapped turbos very unethical and likely illegal.

If they weren't paying their bills they may have been having a hard time getting parts or waiting for replacement parts because of financial problems.

You could call Ford and make a complaint it was their dealer and likely they have other complaints.

Thanks Weld Engineer. I will have the owner look into it. I don't know what can be done at this time, but maybe a piece of mind will help him. He was very upset when we saw that.

Another possibility is the turbo or turbo housing was replaced as one part of an operation of many during a warranty repair and it was not disclosed clearly in the paper trail. Like maybe it was an egr type fault code and it was actually a worn turbo housing causing the vanes to stick or something along those lines.

An oasis report woud be the next step, but one needs an inside connection to a Ford dealer to obtain one.

Harry, This truck has only been to the dealer one time and that was for a leaking fuel tank o-ring. I was thinking along the same lines that you are and I just don't think that is a possibility with what he has told me. I will try for the oasis report.

Anything replaced on the vehicle before it has been sold by the dealer is to be a new, OE part. This is true for any repairs at the factory and dealer lot, which do happen. My gut feel is that a turbo was needed for another vehicle, they used this vehicles turbo and the dealer service manager violated Fords rule.

Jack, Thank you for that info. The problem now is that the dealer is out of business. Not much can be done. Going to replace the turbo with a P-max now so I guess it doesn't matter much...
