Turbocharger failure after less than 500 miles

Could a failing high pressure oil pump the the cause ?

The HPOP does not supply the turbo with oil. That would be the LPOP.

Usually the LPOP's do not fail on these engines. Was the turbo brand new, or rebuilt?

Pulling it tomorrow or Friday

Not sure ....

No paperwork with it

I installed a mechanical oil pressure gauge today - tied into the oil filter base

Reads 40 psi at idle

I will check the tag pull it tomorrow or Friday when I replace it w/
a Garrett remanufactured turbo on a pedestal
