I've ben reading on here bout guys running their trucks with no engine fans... Why? What does this do? I looked at a set of electric fans but for the money I left it stock..... But now I've found a diy kit with dual fans that move 5250cfm (combined) for a decent price. Give me your info!! :thumbsup

Well I'm all for that! But I do haul some pretty heavy loads on somewhat of a regular basis (on the farm). Plus I've been working towards building a puller and currently run 160 cc injectors a turbonetics bb turbo with a whole bunch of other crap. I have never once heard my fan kick in (wonder if its broke!!!). Should I still put in an electric just in case I need to turn it on for some air??

If you have an pneumatic impact hammer, I've found those work pretty well in place of the 'correct' tools. Once I measured the size of the nut and 'cut' a wrench out of some sheet steel we had around. I've had my fan off for several years. The only time it gets close to overheating is if I'm sitting and idling for a long time in the summer heat. I had some electric fans setup but they were pretty cheap and the motors got burned up so I haven't had anything for at least a year or so.

If you're towing heavy, I wouldn't put on electrical fans.

Keep the stock setup if you plan to continue to tow often.

The cooling system in these trucks is designed as overkill, so don't be surprised if the fan doesn't really kick in all the time. When it does, it really works great.

BTW, what are your coolant temps? Have you monitored them with a gauge or diagnostic scanner?

I have a 203 deg. thermostat. I have an aftermarket gauge that typically runs right around 200. Not that its for everyone, but I've towed heavy, well over my GVWR, going up and down some big hills that my truck would barely move at 40mph and my temp stayed good and the electric fans never turned on. That was also before I had done any type of fueling mods though.

The only time I've *ever* had my fan come on was while stuck in traffic in Las Vegas when it was 120* outside. I think you'd be fine without it.

just because u dont hear it coming on doesnt mean its not moving air through the shroud.

the fan clutch only engages it to full 1:1 speed when it needs it. which isnt very often.

ive only heard my clutch come on a few times in the summer but even in the winter its ALWAYS moving air through there, cooling vital componants. A/C, tranny, engine oil, antifreeze.

its not worth it in my opinion.
