What is the acceptable temp difference between the oil and water? Ford at one time said 10 degrees. After the latest flash I understand is was reduce to 5 before the CEL comes on. What are the temps difference others are seeing?

Took a trip to Reno NV this last week. A good test, 7400FT over Donner summit. I saw 214 oil with the water running 208. EGT never went over 950 pulling a 9600lb 5ver.

I see about the same pulling 80 over Donner Summit maybe a bit higher but my 5ver weights more and my truck is on 37's. My oil always seems to be a bit higher. I actually had to replace the oil cooler in mine because I had oil temps over 250 degree and coolant was still in 210-220 range.

I am really hoping that someone here might be able to assist me as I'm currently on a camping trip at Whitefish Montana out from Calgary AB Canada.

I have an issue that has now occurred twice on the same steep and long climb. I'm worried that the next time it happens, the truck wont recover and then go back to normal.

After about say 10mins on a long steep climb, I all of a sudden loose turbo boost and I hear this audible/noisy moan or droan sound coming from the engine bay. I slow to a stranded stop with no power. Turn everything off and get out to verify that my intercooler hoses are all in tack and checks out good. Twice this has happened in the past 6 weeks on the same hill and at almost the same location. I think now that it maybe the differential between engine oil (EOT) and engine coolant temps (ECT) exceeding 15 degrees? However, the DashDaq shows no codes (other that rear tire/axle out of acceptable range) and also the check engine light does not come on. Unfortunately, at the time, I did not notice what my EOT and ECT was.

At the time of incident the trucks geared right down, running approx 30MPH and 30psi boost (I always try not to let it get past 30 when towing). I was running the Spartan 210 (dont like the 210 tow as shifting is TOO harsh - wife boobs jiggle which is good but her coffee spills). EGT's about 1200. So everything was well within normal limits. FYI - 6 weeks ago when it happened I was running the 275 tune so I really don't think this is tuner related.

Anyways, I re-start the truck after about 10 minutes and wala, she goes back to normal. Anyone with any idea?

I'd really like to take this big hill home because the border crossing conditions are WAY better at the Alberta border than at the BC border. Going BC is a bit more forgiving as far as mountainous climbs go.

Thanks Much !!!

Dean

Anything over ten indicates a plugged oil cooler, you should see no more than 5, if so you have a big problem coming down your way.

This is a hard one. You already checked what I would. Sounds similar to a defuel. Might want to call Spartan see if they have anything like that in the program. I doubt it though. Ten might be to low as an indicator of a clogged oil cooler. 20+ seems to be the number after reading the forms. Good luck

Thanks Pyro. 10 degrees diff between ECT and EOT seems to be low for the problem indicator from what I've gathered as well.

On the way back to Alberta the other day, I did take my chances and braved the mountainous climbs and she did alright this time. Mind you, I didn't find one as challenging as the one on the way to Whitefish so...

My max EOT ECT difference observed was 10 degrees on lengthy and steep climbs. Ambient was about 19 deg.C. Boost never got over 30psig.

I've PM'd Jeff a few days ago. I'm hoping either he or Mick might have some suggestions.

When my cooler was bad it was more than a 20 degree difference. I see 10 degree difference with no problems currently. Could be an oil cooler but when mine was bad I saw as high as 290 degree and truck never shut down. I suprise the motor held together when mine occurred but I was in the middle of nowwhere and had to keep on running! Swapped the cooler and I have put over 60K on the truck with no issues.
