my 1999 psd superduty is not starting, i have followed a diagnostic flow chart that has led me to the right engine bank. i performed a voltage test at pin E of the injector harness connected to valve cover gasket. 1.3V found KOEO. next step has me checking resistance of high and low injector terminals of glow plug adapter tool.

my question is what is this glow plug adapter tool?
next question, can this test be performed without tool?
last question, what are these high and low injector circuits for?

You check the resistance of the circuit to see if the UVC (under valve cover) harness has lost connection with the injectors.

1293 is "High side open Bank No. 1" Right Side

You most likely have a loose UVC harness. Fords updated harness is supposed to have a better connection. Or you can get UVC Clips, which are installed into the old harness to hold the connection tighter.

Although the last time I was at Ford, they said the clips are gone, and you MUST buy a new harness.
The harness was $18 from International, Ford wanted $96.00!!!
Get it from the International dealer if you can.

im not familiar with fords code numbers but if the code is describe as a certain injector low side to high side open low side shorted to high or a circuit open it refers to the wiring to the inj and inj coil one wire is the high side (voltage) feed the other is the low side (ground) feed .

if the flow chart has shown the wiring to be good you need to ohm out the wiring from valve cover connector to and thru the inj coil .. the glow plug tool refered to is a harness that plugs into the valve cover to allow you to ohm out the inj as well as ohm the wiring to ground and other wires under valve cover and also a way to ohm out glow plugs.

you should have the single plug valve cover gask and if so the 1st 2 wires and last 2 wires on each end feed the glow plugs the center pin is the commen wire to that banks inj and the 2 wires to eaither side are the control circuits for each inj . you need to ohm the wire from the commen to the inj wire in question should be about 3 ohms resistance. if its high you have a open circuit either a loos connection broken wire or burnt out coil on that inj under valve cover. if its low same componants are causing a short

with that code description I bet on the harness as well and the clips last I knew were still available thru navistar

one other question, would this code/problem prevent truck from starting?
when cranking, engine sounds like only one bank is firing.

The code won't prevent the truck from starting, but the injectors not making a connection sure as heck will.

I don't think you need to go very much further with your diagnosis, I think you'll see the problem when you pull the valve cover. You can have it off in 15mins and find the problem.
If nothing appears burnt, squeeze the oblong plug that plugs ^up^ into the valve cover gasket together, and see if it will fire off.

I fixed mine the first time with zip ties and it didn't hold, got a new harness and all is well.

Let me know if the VC gasket harness itself is damaged, I have some extras in perfect shape.

thanks, she started. i went back to work on it, i removed right valve cover to find uvc harness not connected correctly, once snapped in, she started right up. i will look for the clips, or replace if need be. thanks.

just before the truck wouldn't start for me, i had many codes and an ecm code po606 i believe, do you think this may have been a false code?

i will drive her tomorrow and go from there.

That's a PCM code. Could have been generated by the harness being disconnected, battery cables, or something else.

0603 and 0605 are normal for a chipped truck.
