I just grabbed a set of 16x8 Weld Sidewinders off of PSN and now I have to decide whether I want to paint them myself or have 'em powdercoated to complete my de-chroming. Paint is a metric chit ton cheaper but if I prep carefully, how much durability would I really be giving up vs. powder?

Also, how much $$$ should I expect to spend if I do have the rims professionally coated?

I had a set of Ford 18" wheels blasted and then painted Base Coat/Clear Coat and they came out great. I'm going to try to was the truck this weekend and get some updated pictures on here. Chris

Depends on your location, aluminum costs a little bit more to coat than steel due to outgassing issues, so there's more prep work involved. Around Pittsburgh, it runs anywhere from $50.00 to $120.00 per wheel or so for aluminum to be coated. But, it's more durable so long as the right powder is applied. I've seen powder coated motorcycle tanks take rocks and ding the tank without damaging the finish.
