hmmm

i was reading this on the 6.7 pcm lock.

I'm not 100% sure how the pcm works, as in "lock out"

seems logical that each vehicle will have same code to "unlock" the pcm,(like f350 dually)

because too much to keep track of...Unless you use a code in the vin number!
then its logical to have a different pcm code for each vehicle. Each has its own vin number, or maybe use the vehicle number!

if it is one code...if i was spartan or any other..i wouldn't want to announce you broke the code until the vehicles are getting built with one code. Because they have time to change it between now and then...then they (spartan,etc...) would possibly have to start over to unlock it! :)

Sound crazy or what!

I would not think an auto manufacturer would actually intend for their PCM to be hacked by aftermarket. That would turn to be costly for them down the road. Ford has been taking the initiative to make it harder to access their codes and update them.

They have done some changes on the 6.0L coding, which took a little to figure out on our part to manipulate. We will just have to wait and see what comes up next.

Keep your adversaries close..

Every think that maybe Spartan was used? as in to test the how well the new code is secure...or not?

Best think you can do is if your trying to prevent getting hacked...hire the best hacker ypou know to build your defenses..

But still someone will figure it out...lol

Hi guys,

I sat here and read all the back and forth, speculation, name calling, etc. I have something to add and if you guys chose to flame me for it, so be it, but it is factual.

At the SEMA show Ford had 1 2011 6.7 SD truck in the display, a special that is done up for De Walt. I spent some time talking to one of the ford reps that was responsible for that truck, and asked some questions. One in particular was about tuning and whether this one was going to be easier or harder to mod. He replied "many of the aftermarket supliers have had access to the vehicles powertrain and components slated for production year 2011 already, and have indicated they will be prepared to support the vehicles as they hit the street". Bottom line, win at the track on Sunday, big sales at the Dealership on Monday.

so there it is...says nothing about tuning it or having it on a Dyno....
Do you really think that if spartan had one that ford in gonna let them get on the forums and tell everybody LOL
Do you really think that a sales rep knows anything about PCM programming?
They won't no much about programming but they will know if it can be programed or not

The question that hasn't been asked is..... What are they planning to do to make it easier for them to tell if the truck has been tuned? If I was ford I would figure a way to log thousands of hours or miles. This would make it really hard to hide a tuner or modifications made to the truck. Maybe they used the after market to figure that out? People will be tuning their trucks it is a given. If the truck made 1500hp and 2500lbs of torque we would still be on the hunt for more power.

we will always want more..... its just who we are!! LOL

If they logged 100 miles who's to say that the tuner wouldn't jsut lift that log and put it back in when it goes back to stock???

The Smarty for the Cummins records the Key logs and such and restores them during each programing session, I'm sure someone should be able to figure that out for the 6.7 too, or I sure hope so, cause it makes life so much easier when having any type of warrenty work done...
