Project Big Red- Take Two

Well here we go again! That's right, Aden's Big Red Fummins is getting a facelift and introduced to the 21st century! Many of you may know Aden's truck which was built clear back in 2005. Sporting the top of the line performance parts (at the time) and a fully built 4R100, it was the baddest truck on the road. And Aden, being a pioneer of the Cummins Conversion industry, wouldn't take no for an answer when everyone told him a CR would never run in anything other than a Dodge truck. Since 2005, this truck has been faithful and reliable for over 150k miles.

We are going to revamp the whole truck head to toe. It is going to get a freshened up and beefed up motor, with lots of goodies including twins, and the power will now make it's way to the ground through a bomb proof Allison 5 speed. We are shooting for another 700-800 Horse truck. Keep in mind that we drive our trucks on a daily basis and expect them to start in -30* weather without being plugged in, expect them to hook up to everything from 4 place sled trailers to loaded down goosenecks, and travel from sea to shining sea. We don't just build big power trucks, we build reliable big power trucks.

We will also be doing a full interior update, not sure what all will be in store here as we are still playing with some different ideas, but no doubt it will be sick!

Stay tuned and follow us on this build, it should be good!

If you need a place to dump the old motor and trans, I will take all that old stuff off your hands. :D

Dang Steel you guys do some awsome work. Can't wait to see this one.

We are going thru his motor and building it up. I put the 4R100 in my truck :D I'd be happy to hook you up with a motor and trans though!
Steel who are you going through for your Allison harness?

Yeah I thought that might be were you got your 4r100.

Oh I wish I could get a CR and a tranny from you guys but I need to keep this build as cheap as possible, that is why I am going with a 12v you got a good 12v laying around? I know it will be loud as all get out but at least it will make noise.
:hijacked sorry bout that

We use the Destroked Harness.

I can build you a CR motor cheaper than I can build you a 12v lol I don't really want to let go of the 12v, they are getting really hard to find, but I have a handful of CR's here that I will be going through and freshening up, then they will be for sale! Are you going to go with a manual trans?

I need to keep it auto trans the wife will not drive a standard. She might need the truck from time to time. It will not be a daily driver, we live on a ranch and use it now and then. You can only get so much feed in the back of a cobalt.
Please tell me that you aren't going to run the 5R110.

No I gave up with the 5r110. I was thinking of getting a 4r100 I can score one of those fairly cheap. Was also thinking of just using a dodge tranny. I know it will take some drive shaft modifications but that should be cheaper than an adaptor plate.
Lovin the 4R100 the more and more I drive it, the shifts are heavenly! LOL The dodge 48RE will work as long as you aren't aiming for huge power and trying to run it all thru it. I have the 48's shifting pretty well and smooth up to about 550-600 ponies.

That is good news, as I am only looking to get 350-450hp out of this motor.
Now I need to decide on a combination.:thinking
Well Saturday we came in and pulled the engine, Aden cleaned up the wiring under his dash and cleaned up the engine bay while Clay and I pulled the motor apart to reseal everything and got the head popped off just to check out what the cylinders looked like after many hard miles over the last few years. Once we got the head off we wished we hadn't taken it off, the cylinders looked perfect and the headgasket hadn't even started to go. We painted up the motor really nice and got the big 85% pump on it.

The Allison is being built up as we speak, and the head is off getting some much needed therapy. We should have the head back on this week and maybe motor back in this weekend! Stay tuned!

Looking good. Hmm, is that Cummins red?
It was the closest red I could find to match the color of Aden's truck, a little lighter than Cummins red!
I thought you just had better light than me. When I painted mine with the Cummins red I was disappointed.

I'm waiting to see how your Allison goes. I'm still fighting an electrical gremlin with mine.
any new updates?
any new updates?
Aden changed his mind on the motor, while it is out we are putting new rings, bearings, 12v rods, balancing everything, and lots more. So we have been waiting on motor parts!
Ok so after being swamped to no end here lately, we finally got some free time to start in on Aden's truck again. We tore the motor down and built it back up with all new bearings, 12v rods, Dpro Street cam, 90 Horse Injectors, 85% pump, Fully balanced rotating assembly and more. The motor and trans are both in place, and I have spent the last couple days wiring on the Painless and the Allison. Note where I mounted the Allison TCM- pretty slick I thought! (My idea- Aden built it):wave I got the twins on it and it's going together pretty quick right now, til Aden and I get burned out on it and need another break! LOL He is coming in over the weekend to keep working on it. Some pics to please!
