Hi everyone. I have my eye on a 1985 GMC S15 diesel extended cab. Pretty rare little truck in extended cab version. The old guy that owns it said he still uses it to go hunting and short errands. However it was wrecked a few years ago so the front part of the truck is from an S10(wether its just the shell or more than that, Im not sure). The engine runs well but he has to start it with starting fluid in the morning. But after that, it starts easy. It has the original 5 speed however it will only shift into the first four gears. My question is what is a fair price, and what do you think the problem is with the engine starting and the transmission not going into overdrive? I'm thinking the engine is probably a fairly low cost fix, but what about the transmission? Any info is much appreciated. Thanks.

I would imagine that trans parts would be cheap now. Heck, you may be able to find a good one at a boneyard.

if it runs id offer less than $1000. can give you a line on a '87 s15 2.8l gasser that needs a clutch, but runs well. passenger door has a dent. pm if interested.

Advent :

if i rember it right it was Isuzu engine but not sure what series but i know they ran about 60- 80 hp range i am not sure if they were turbo'ed but if turbo'ed it will push out about 115 hp range

that was quite a while so maybe it can be correct for that era

That would be a sweet little runner to have. I'd love to find one of those, or the little diesel rangers to tool around in. A guy around here has a little diesel escort. If I see a FS sign go up in its windshield...it'll follow me home.

diesel S15

I have a diesel S10 its the same as the S15 basically, its a nice running little truck, they a 2.2L isuzu non turbo diesel in them not the fastest thing in the world but great on fuel and reliable as can be, if the thing wont start in the morning the glow plug controller probably is bad or one of the temp switches that tells the thing when to kick them on, after I get my diesel jeep swap done Ill be looking to sell my s10 if anyone is interested Im located in Illinois

The lack of 5th gear is probably a loose nut in the tailshaft housing.

A local boneyard is asking $450 exchange for a trans. so I would guess that he is repairing them.

The C223na was rated 53 horse for 81, the turbo was a little spendy for pickup buyers but they still go by in Troopers - mostly around $2500.

Last pickup I saw was $400 with the alternator missing. There is a vacuum pump mounted on the back of the alternator, about $400 for both or figure out how to run a MD Delco with a pump. Delcos with a pump are hard to find also.

The starting thing - first in the morning - there are ;
common, corrosion on the sensing shunt, burned glowplugs, bad controler

uncommon? loss of pressure in the injector pump. I use a cheap electric fuel pump to fill fuel filters from the tank to avoid the possibility of dirty fuel in the service can, I got distracted while waiting for pressure and figured 7# no problem. I got back to the job and it had seeped out the on vehicle prime pump and leaked a half cup or so. One of the other things on the list was first start - below 70 F a little gaseous fuel was usually needed but not after the fuel pump thing. The next morning - run the pump until the sound changed and 2 cycles on the glow plugs and it lit off at 40 F. So adding the pump helped the starting.

The old guy the runs the local dump or in today words transfer station. Has two of those S-10 with the diesels in them. I have tried to buy them from him one runs and one don't. He will not sell them. He claims they are a real collectors item. He has told me that there is only two registered in the state of Wisconsin and he has them both. I think he is full of crap but have nothing to prove him otherwise. I remember also going out with a girl once back years ago that drove a diesel chevette. I think those little diesels are neat and would love to have one.
