I have been saving up my money to buy a SCT X-cal2 for my 2003 powerstroke with a 6-speed. I had a friend who has a friend that was selling a superchip programmer for my truck for only $100! He was selling his 2003 and getting a 2005. The deal was to good to pass up so I bought it planning to run it till I got enough money to buy the SCT then I would sell the superchip. Well I put the superchip on yesterday, and I love it! The truck is blistering fast, with virtually no turbo lag. My queastion is, is the SCT that much faster than the superchip? I cant imagine how fast it is if its faster than the superchip. Would it be worth my money to save up my money for the custom tuned SCT???

Sorry for such a long thread, Thank you for any help.

no he has a SUPERCHIP NOT a SCT they are 2 differnt things, SUPERCHIP is more of a "canned" tuner.
you will make more power with the sct, night and day difference? no but a noticable increase

If you are happy with the performance, stay with it for a while. Definately get the stacks. Trust me you'll love 'em. Then, later on down the road get the SCT. I got a sweet deal from Elite Diesel on an older Xcal1. and now I just use my old bullydog programmer to read and clear DTC's, if necessary.

Ok, I plan on running the superchip for a while then switching over. But today(the day after I put the superchip on) i was slowly pulling out of the driveway and then i was slowly accelerating and at 2000rpms it was almost like the whole motor shut off, it was almost like it dropped to an idle I dont really know how to explain it. Then the rpms came back up then I shifted to second gear and it did the exact same thing. I pulled over cause I was only driving about 100 yds down the road to the barn. Then one of my buddies wanted to see it smoke so I fired it up and it had set for about 6 hours and it was really cold outside, but when I started revving it up it was almost like it was cutting out. Lastly yesterday it really threw the coal today it was blowing grew smoke. Is this all im my head or should I get rid of the programmer??? Help!!!!

It could possibly be in your truck's head. Some of these hotter tunes that throw smoke do not like cold weather. When the temps here in Ohio drop below 40 I detune to around 75hp. It helps with startup and overall driveability. Maybe try going back to stock once just to make sure the problem is not with the truck itself. I can't blow as much coal either when temps drop outside.

The old superchips tuner was a canned program - but every once in a while they would find a bug in and have to update the program....

guess what - you had to detune back to stock - YOU paid for the shipping - you waited a few weeks..... and each time they found another bug.... guess what :)

you got a fair deal - but I would look into what version of the program you got and is it even for your year and model vehicle... good luck with it !

My tuner is the 1704 microtuner. I dont think I can download the extreme tune with a microtuner it has to be a flashpac doesnt it??? Also I am curious to how much extra horse I am getting with the 1704? My friend said about 100. That sounds about right, but Im just curous...

If you are happy with the Superchip, for the price you can't beat it. With the SCT we can customize the tunes based on what you are looking for but you are already happy. Stick with it :woot: Get the stacks :sly:

Thanks,
Vivian

IIRC the 1704 was in the 80 to 90 hp range, (if it wasn't on a superchips run dyno....) if u get my drift :)
Superchips usually said in the 140 hp range....
but only superchips could define the parameters that would give you that... No one else could replicate it :)

in fact I used to go round and round with a wuperchips arrogant incompetent that would redefine what a hp increase was..

IIRC, he would say peak hp increase wasn't what it should be called - something like hp AT peak or the largest increase in hp - it was double talk and basically got sick of his snake oil salesman approach...

could be a good product, but when you asked for 6 months when it first came out and all you heard was "140 hp peak" and yet it was getting beat by 100 hp tuners - we finally figured out why they never posted a dyno plot :)
