Need help, stupid truck

Ok so I lost my Vp44 a few weeks ago, I have put two other pumps on it and it still wont run. I had one put on it and I put the other on yesterday. I can get it to start and run but after I shut it off I cant get it to start again. It still has some codes and I dont know if they are messing with it or what. I put two different used pumps on that worked trying to get it running and still wont. It seems to be loosing its prime or something. I cracked every fuel line and I'm getting fuel when she is running and runs ok, I do have a check engine light on also. I pulled codes earlier after trying to get it running.

Codes are 0562, 0251, 0252, 0236. I know 0251/52 are injection pump failure codes the first pump threw and 0236 is map sensor voltage. The low chargeing system is because of trying to crank it to get it running. Any idea guys, I really dont want to keep pulling pumps.

or it could be that your aftermarket lift pump isnt putting out enough juice to feed the VP.. we have a 24v in our shop. lift pump and injector pump.. 2900$ :damnit

I throw an over charging code everyonce and a while... but I dis-reguard it

Have you checked your fuel system for air leaks letting the fuel drain back into the tank?

Yeah, dont see anything. Isnt there a checkvalve or something that can stick? I remember someone saying there was something that needs replaced now everytime you do a pump but cant remeber what it is. Once I get it started it runs, will start back twice if I turn it off then start right back up but after that looses prime.

I don't know anything about a check valve but something is definetly blocking it somewhere or something isn't doing it's job if you can only start it twice right after shut down.

One of the articals said the banjo bolt on the return line had componets for pressure regulation.

Have you run a direct from the battery wire to the shutoff?

Replacement with a known good pump pretty much cover the pump and goes back to the truck. Try turning the lift pump on with a jumper and an ampmeter.

Just random thoughts to try and kickstart your thinker - frustration is not your friend.

Air in fuel

I read of a similiar problem in another website and his problem was the 0 ring under the bleeder screw at the fuel filter housing (but his was a Chevy). He picked up a new 0 ring and screw at the dealership.

Yeah I thought it was my fuel filter but I changed that and nothing. Dad called and told me he found a fuel leak behind the head but cant get to it.

Andy, that leak behind the head is most likely the fuel return line from the injectors. It is hard to get to but possible.

Fixed all my leaks and still wouldnt start. I finally did get it to fire and drove it out the road. Shut it off once and it fired back up. I went to autozone was in there for about five minutes and it would not fire again. I finally got it running after 45minutes and took it home. Before I had left the house I checked it for codes and there was nothing, I got back home checked it again and pulled the 0216 code. Looks like I get to install yet another VP44 on it.

Hey Dude,
My buddy Bil and his dad both have the 24V cummins. His dads truck had an issue just like yours. The problem ended up being the whole sending unit for the tank. One of the lines had a hair line crack and was causing his truck to lose prime. Bill told me there was also something iside the tank that broke too. I don't know how but just did out of nowhere. So my advise to you is try that cause sounds like thats the only thing you haven't touched yet. Replace the whole sending unit assembly and go from there, then double checking all your fittings on the supply line to the lift pump. I hope you know that if you turn your key to the on possition, then tap it quick and let go and the lift pump will run for 25 seconds to prime the system. I you let the pump run and unscrew the fuel filter cap just a lil bit, and have bubble/foam coming out with a full tank of fuel then there is def an issue with the supply side of the fuel system. Don't forget too, diesel fuel when still will be all liquid, but once you start splashing it around it gets foamy. so make sure your tank is full when you do this. make sure you do this check before you replace the sending unit. Sounds like it could be but do this check first. Hope this helps dude.
