I have to say Pope54x, your story telling is great. Although I am the number one fan of 3408s your way off. First off Gants train ride never happened. Secondly his supposed 130 mph truck was the KTA KW and not the V8 Cat. Third thing is its hard to believe 130 mph considering at the same time the Liberty Bell with its worked up KTA held the land speed record for a truck (bobtail) at 127 mph. Even though you actually can gear a truck to run 130 mph its damn near impossible unless you have all tail wind and maybe a 30 mile downhill.
Now as for the KTA and 3408 debate, it goes like this. If you don't want to spend money to go fast then the only chose is the 3408. KTs will build more hp but it costs to do it.
I do want to add a stock KT or KTA is not really a problem to outpull. I know of a slightly tweaked 380 A model that outpulled 2 KTA 600s back in the 80s.:woot:
