I did a pretty good job of controlling myself from spending too much money on mods for my truck....... Until today. I got a leveling kit, full replacement bumpers and fender flares today. I Plan on ordering wheels and tires on Monday. I plan on getting 20x10 wheels with 325 60 20. I believe these tires are 35" tall and a little under 13" wide

My question is 4.56" backspacing enough for these tires? Could I go up to 37x12.50's?

im pretty sure that with a replacement bumper itll be easier to run 37s.........of course it all depends on that backspacing and im no expert when it comes to that.

i do know that many here are successfully running 37s on stock wheels with just a leveling kit

How wide of tires can you go without a leveling kit. with the stock 20x9 wheels?

I am thinking about going with the 37's and just getting spacers if need be. Someone correct me if I am wrong but no one has any issue with tire rubbing the actual lip of the fender due to height but it is the width rubbing the control arms right?

First of all, I wouldn't recommend spacers unless you're prepared to check them and re-torque them often.

As for tires, stock rims can handle 35 x 12.50 IF they don't have huge side cutters on them like the Toyo's or Mud Grapplers. They'll rub the control arms if they're wider or taller or both.

37's will rub the control arms on stock rims due to diameter, not width. 37's will rub the fenderwells some at full turn while hitting a bump. The inner fenderwell is cardboard, though, so it doesn't hurt to carve some of it out to keep it from rubbing. I haven't had a 37" tire hit any metal part of the fenderwells, just the cardboard.

My 37 x 13.50's don't rub the control arms with my rims (4" backspacing). I would think 4.5" backspacing would not rub with 37 x 12.50's, maybe 13.50's wouldn't rub, but I'm not sure of it.

Thanks for the info Willie, it is very helpful. I have never had the issue of the spacers coming loose on my off roading truck....... it doesn't see that many miles but it see's ten time more abuse than my F 250 will. I just put lock tight on the spacers I think I am going to cross my fingers and get the 37x12.50x20. The rim will be a 20x10 with a 4.56" back spacing. I am going to try the Nitto Trail Grappler MT. I have been reading some real good things about these tires. I am a little worried on how they are going to hold up with all of the road driving I do. Anyone have any experience with these tires?

Last question, you guys with the leveling kit, did yall get the trackbar spacers? Some people say to use them, others say no.

My bad, I mis informed everyone, musta had a brain fart. My rims have 5" backspacing, and 13.50's don't rub. So 4.56" BS is even better, probably could run 14.50's at least and still not rub the control arms. You'll be fine with that tire/wheel combo you mentioned. They're going to stick out a little, but not ridiculous.

That Trail Grappler, as you know, is pretty new. Not many have them, and the ones that do haven't put many miles on them. SOOTBANDIT got them not too long ago:

As for the trac bar, I didn't do the spacer. The axle does shift to the driver side about half an inch or so, but it's not noticeable (other than when you try to bolt the sway bars back on). I drove my last truck for 75,000 + with the 2.5" pucks and no other mods to the front. Never had a single problem with the front end.

ive had the trail grapplers 5,000 miles. i drive prety hard tow often. i hope i hope i get 20k out of em. but probly not i wont buy again kuz hell who wants to spend 1200 bucks every 17,000 miles

Thanks again Willie. I plan on getting some bushwacker fender flares so if they stick out it wont be a problem for long.

I have read many reviews from magazines and actual customer reviews but like you said it is such a new tire that I cant get a feel for how long they are supposed to last. Really the only negative thing that I have read is that they are freaking heavy, if I remember correctly and if my math is right I found the spec on a 35" trail grappler compared the the 35" procomp xterrain and they were like 20-25% heavier.

I was hoping that the extra tread depth on the trail grappler would help get around the same mileage as the terra grappler........ But I think that is just wishful thinking.

Case, did you rotate yours often? and by driving hard do you mean peeling out quite often?

well i only have 5,000 miles on them and i rotate every 3k so well i thought that was often? maybe not. ha no no burnouts but alota of going around corners maybe to fast and hard acceleration. i think the stick shift is maybe harder on them being on and off the pedal so much. i dont wana say dnt get them. there badazz tires. there quite. maybe take this into consideration. i got 12k outa the stock continentals. if that means anything to u. oh and another thing my bro drives it on and offf and i would imagine when im not looking hes beating the ever living crap outa my truck (then again il do the same with his hes got an 6.4 auto with the 310 tune haha)

Well that makes me feel better hearing that you got 12k out of the Continentals. I got over 50k on them so compared to you I must be able to drive Mrs. Daisy. Hahahahaha.

They may be heavier, but your rim choice might help too. I know my MT aluminum rims are night and day lighter than the stock steel rims. I dare say the 37's on aluminum are about the same as the 35's on the steels. Sure feel like it when rotating...
