I know that there is most likley a tread on this already, if there is I appologise as I cannot find it. I have a job 1 truck with the remote tranny filter, I have done some reading and I understand that there is also an internal filter as well. Question is does anyone know where a person can buy these filters other than ford. They want my first child for one, and if they are anything like the fuel filters you can buy 3 for the price of one online.
Thanks

which filter do you need...the in pan filter or the by-pass (TP ROLL) ?
Ive been buying the filters from dieselfiltersonline and ive been very happy
with them...they are EXACT FIT (SPEC) filters.

since you dont have the job2 6.4L you can order the 6.0 tranny filter.

the NTZ filter is the OE mfg for the by-pass filter $12.99

Right on, thanks, I will do them both in a few months and oil change as well.

Some Job 1s like mine use an external transmission filter that is under the pan and has four fittings on it and you must replace the whole unit. It is not like the one you pictured it is part number Ford 7C3Z-7B155-B / Motorcraft FT-176. It is expensive. $78 from Powerstrokeshop.com

That's the one I have as well. There is a guy that took it off and changed the tranny pan and put in the latest filter that is in the pan. It cost him $150-$200.

This is the one that I am talking about... $80.00 from the local ford dealer... I guess that they are not too far out to lunch. Still not sure if there is one under the pan too??

there is a filter in the pan of every 5r110 torqshift.
most trucks have some kind of external by-pass
filter (in addition to the internal filter)

The guy that did the swapout from the side ways four port filter said if you have that filter the "filter" in the pan was not much more than a screen. He did the swap to the new style in pan filter which was claimed to be a great filter that filtered 100% of the fluid and the bypass filter only filtered only about 25% of the oil at a time.

Confused...?

I have an '05. So there is an internal 'screen' and the external 'can' filter? Replace them both when servicing the trans fluid?

with the 03-07 the in-pan filter/screen is not replaced unless the transmission
is "gone into".

the by-pass filter (aka toilet paper roll) is replaced at 30k mile intervals.

Went "into" the tranny this evening - drained the fluid, dropped the pan and replaced the black plastic filter.

I do not see anything that looks like the external tranny filter in the URL pix you posted. Where exactly is it located on the truck frame? From the pix - looks kinda hard to miss...

Relooking the pix - If the external "can" filter hangs under the bell housing - I KNOW I don't have one. Truck is an '05 F250

Thanx

It's behind the radiator on the passanger side. If you follow the cooler lines forward as you get to the radiator you will see it. It's grey / aluminium. Use a good socket (can't remember the size) to get it off. I was lazy and used channel locks once and took a chunk out of nut on my 03. Didn't hurt anything but could have I suppose. It's real soft metal. Hope this helps.:happymugs

its BEST to "hit it" w/ a 22mm air impact gun...the threads are fine pitch and
the thing gets TIGHT as HELL !

the OE spec filter is available at the dealer for $35+ or online for about 12 bucks...
at this link http://dieselfiltersonline.com/Ntz0...ission-Filter-Replaces-Ft145-Ntz-09-C09b.aspx

dont replace the filter w/ anything that DOESNT look like the OE filter...buy
some extras filters (oil/fuel etc) and save shipping.
