I have a 6.9 IDI that has developed a leak on the outside edge of the valve cover. The gasket is rubber. Should this gasket be put on dry on clean surfaces, or is it better to add some "form a gasket" to help seal the lid? I installed this gasket over a year ago and I used grey form a gasket to help make a solid seal. The other side was done the same way and is still dry. What is the best technique?

I always do it dry that way the gasket will not squeeze out of place. Many I will use studs in all the holes and make sure the gasket sits properly, that install the cover and replace the studs one at a time then tighten the bolts with a flex socket and an extension, first. Then slowly tighten.
Just a thought!

Thank you. I will make the surfaces as clean and dry as I can, then watch to see which cover leaks first! Thanks for the replay.
