I was buttoning up my Head-gasket job today. The previous rebuilder didn't use quality Nuts/Bolts when mounting the Turbo. Well I OWN A MATABO... It looks to be STEEL not Cast but I'm not an expert on rusty metals. I didn't notice I was carving into the turbo case. Duh..
..Can this 1" inside through cut be welded and the outside gouged and filled? God I hope so. If not anyone got a casing they would like to sell QUICK..Contact me through here if so. Fits my 400 Cat 1982 92U family..
Can get Turbo model # or "YNOT", (Just discovered it's his name "sdrawkcab") what model might I look for to possibly gain a little more HP without worrying about burning something up..
Thanks to all I know will share some input..:haha

You can fix it. They make "cast" rods for stick welding, but I've done it with a wire welder. Just heat the housing first, then lay it in with good heat on your wire welder. It'll hold. It's "pre-cleaned" ;)

make sure that the housing is hotter than 250*s and cool it slow after peening the weld when hot. Don't grind until cooled

:thumbsupyes we weld, manifoils but a tip you need to take away the hot part of the turbo and you refill with sand get a torch and warm it up and then welled it this is outside, the inside you put turbo over the sand you should have dropped then re warm it with torch then let it cool down with the sand and then your done :thumbsup

Well, took it to a very good shop, $25 later he brazed it saying he has done it many times before. Hope it holds. Other than getting a wrong gasket from CAT, I provided wrong Part #, i have it 90% ready to start on Monday..Sunday is bowlin & drinkin in Michigan...
Thanks again to all who have helped with my Head Gasket and answering all the questions. Hopefully someday I will be of assistance for someone on this board, it doesn't get any better than this..Got my Mafia Stickers ready to put all over my service vehicle and Peterbilt once they get clean & WARM !!!
