Has anyone researched how much extra thermal load the EGR adds to the cooling system? That hot exhaust has got to add something extra to the load. If any research was done, what was found out?

I think it was an article in the 06 LBZ or 07 LMM forum that said something about GM adding cooling system capacity to offset the additional heat from the EGR.
Also, when we were discussing the order of engines in relation to probability to O/H, it went (lowest to highest):

LB7 fed (no egr)
LB7 cali (egr)
LLY (egr)

Has anyone that ran high temps with an LLY installed an EGR blocker plate and fingerstick, and then noticed a difference? Heck, did anyone think to check?

Im just thinking here.....

The EGR has been blocked on a lot of trucks. It may help however it is the thimble in the quart jar, if you look hard enough it helps.

Great question!

My cooling issues occur under severe conditions; weight being towed, OAT, grade, headwind, etc. EGTs are highest under the same conditions. I, and perhaps others, tend to focus on thermal loads from the engine, transmission, CAC, etc.

Time required to warm up increased when I installed the EGR blocker plate.
