what entails 6.0 to Common rail

On the list of things to do to my truck one day is a common rail cummins, in my adventures i always seem to find deals so i want to know what i need to watch for so i can start collecting parts, also i have a few questions on wiring etc.

first of all my truck is an 06, i think id like to keep the same year engine 06 obviously but whats all involved, besides the obvious things like motor mounts adapter plates etc, how are you guys tying into the truck ie getting the tach, speedo, etc to all work with the cummins, how are you getting the obd port to work with the smarty and things like that? whats being done for intercooling, stock ford ic? custom?

my goal would be 06 c.r. with a reliable 500-600whp 1000-1200tq what all do i need to do?

Robts or EB.bldr are the guys to talk to on the CR on here.

From my understanding the '06 has a bit more involved for wiring purposes. '04.5's can be desirable as they still use the mechanical TPS to pedal cable. This can have it's advantages for trottle peddle selection as well as CC operation.

Some of those things will be controlled by the Ford ECM. If/when you get an engine it would be a double bonus if you were to come out with as much of the wiring off the donar as possible. The Cummins will have it's own OBDII.

Aftermarket. The Ford IC has plastic end tanks that WILL blow up. Interco or Banks.

HP rating will be the same in this or a Fiat product. So working with HPnums has plenty of options. I would be researching injectors, turbo, and CP3 pumps to find a good combo that will work for you.

Turbonetics......Must of had tires on the mind.:damnit
jumping back on im putting a list together on what im going to need to make this happen, for the most part i think i have the bases covered, my big concern now is wiring, to robts and ebbldr how are you guys wiring this all in? obviously as stated the cummins has its own obd port etc, but what about the rest? i read thru threads and threads, running 2 ecus for controls part cummins controls the other parts etc id kinda like to get a list together unless those that know wanna keep it somewhat a secret if so pm me

heres what ive gathered so far

Motor mounts
adapter plate for 5.9 to 5r110
Built 5r110
Stand alone trans controller (Is this really needed?)
Full 03-04.5 (is 05 the same as well or did it go drive by wire?) donor with wiring harness and ecu
tach adapter
full aluminum intercooler

then all the obvious minor little details that pertain ie fuel system, intercooler piping battery placement and all other relocations and add ons and then power setup of choice injectors turbo etc

some stuff ive read in the other threads are about deletes like heater box delete and other sorts, what are those things and why exactly are you deleting/retaining and vice versa

Dont waste your money on a 5r110. You will need a pcs controller, fly wheel and adaptor. A built dodge 48re is alot better. No pcs or stand alone transcontroller, custom fly wheel or adaptor. Its alot easier to do and tune

yup! it will also hold up better. i wouldnt trust a built 5r110 with a stand alone controller behind a 600hp cummins.

as for power, a guy in our club runs a smarty, ts mp-8, 90hp tips, spearco intercooler, and stock charger and put down 571/11xx in his 06. he added an airdog and it ran better. add a bag of parts for the CP3 and a better charger and thats an easy 600hp+ combo.

Save your self the nightmare and bag the 5R110 idea. Been there done that. As far as engines go, stay with the 04.5 to 05 engine. At that point decide between 48re or a manual. We've got the parts needed to mate the Ford Tcase up to the Dodge Transmissions. My personal preference is to stay away for the 03-04 motors, we've had a hard time getting full fueling out of a majority of these engines. The way to tell is the hp rating on the valve cover, 03-04 engines have 305 hp, 04.5 to 05 have 325. The most desirable in our shop is the 04.5 325 horse with the bell crank tps and cable. Alot easier to modify for cruise control. As far as the wiring goes, there are two options. Full harness premade you simply finish the install. Or wire in your existing harness that comes with the motor. If you are fairly competent with wiring you are fine with the harness on the motor. The nice thing about the stand alone harness is you don't have to worry about what you are tapping into. The harness is totally stand alone, has it's own fuse box and relays. We've been sending most of our conversions down the road with the standalone harnesses lately. The time saved and piece of mind on the wiring is well worth it. You want to ditch the intercooler you have. If money is an issue find a 99-01 aluminum intercooler. We have full kits for the conversions, including a/c lines, motor mounts tach tone rings, tach sensor mount kits, you name it we've got it. If a customer purchases conversion parts from us we will see you through to the end. You will need some misc parts from the parts stores, radiator hoses, clamps, fittings ect. You will need a fuel pump, FASS or Airdog, You cannot run your existing pump. The instrument cluster is very easy to get operating. Save the engine harness once the engine is removed and mark all the sensors. This will aid in stripping the harness of unecessary wiring. Feel free to call 800-620-4467, we are here to answer questions and give you options. We currently have over 20 commonrail conversions under our belts as well as many other Cummins configurations. Check our our website to see some of our recently completed rigs.
