How does a guy tell if he has a wheel bearing going out? I got a ticking coming from the drivers side front which sounds like a bearing going, it gets worse when you are turning a corner, what do you guys think it may be?

That sure sounds like a bearing. Check your lug nuts first though.

Also check to make sure you don't have a piece of metal clinking around inside the center cap.

Put your hand on the hub after driving around for a bit, and check to see if one side feels like it has a different temperature. Compare the fronts with the rears. A laser thermometer works well for this.

If one wheel is super hot, then the bearing is most likely gone.

Let us know what you find,

Woody

Jack up that side of the truck (get the wheel off the ground), and give the tire a shake. If its bad, it will have a bunch of play in it. The final sign of it going bad is the obvious grinding sound, which mine had.

Most of the play will be an up and down play. It's easier to tell that way because of slight play in tie rods. 1/4" or so of play in the bearings means there bad.
