debating over if i should buy a sct for my 2004 f250 6.0L. i have a edge platinum for about a year. i read everyone say that sct is the way to go, so why would i be happier with a sct? the sct direct controls the transmission while the edge computer controls it thru a learning process. but anyway i would like to hear sell me why i would be better off with a sct from the sct users. or from the edge users why should i stay with edge? i want the best for my truck, so i would like to hear your opinions. let them rip. thanks

well the edge actually doesn't really do anytihing for the trans, or at least it does very little, ask around more people have toasted trans with the edge then anything else. and most people will agree the guages on the attitude do have issues. Another bonus of the sct is you have it tuned for you and your truck, we can make it do what you want, hard shifts, smooth shifts. alot of smoke, no smoke, it is updatable. and it will make more power than your edge
i have ran a few different tuners/boxes an nothing stacks up.

what he said, its just so much stronger, i rode in a 6.0 that had a bullydog downloader and an edge stacked and our truck with the sct had alot more get up and go. you can have torque converter lockup, and have set schedules of when you want it. it you have a file and you want it to shift firmer, you can bump it up in the settings when you are loading up a tune, but you cant go so far as to mess anything up. im sure more will come along and say more.

well i like to hear prenn issues with his sct? every sct user states about the transmission blowing up, while using a edge. but i have read about people in forums with their tranny going south and using an sct. but they usually blame it on too much power? personally from what i read between the lines is people abusing there trucks and blaming it something else but themselves. not saying there wasn't its all human error. everyone takes a chance some lose and some win. like to hear more in more detail about the plus's and minus'.

Let me tell you from experience.
I had an Edge Platinum with the Hot Juice upgrade(6) and it isn't as strong as my Xtreme Street file from Innovative!!!!
Erics Xtreme Race is even stronger and my trans shifts FLAWLESSLY and my egt's aren't out the roof like they were with the Edge junk.
It was the best money I ever spent getting my SCT,but that's just me:Thumbup: .

I'm another user that just switched from Edge to SCT. I had the Juice Platinum and later I stacked it with the Edge Evo for better tranny control. I have had the SCT for about a week with an Extreme Race file from Eric at Innovative Diesel. It's the best decision I've made! The tranny shifts so much better and with the SCT they can control the Torque Converter lockup. With the race file, it locks the Torque Converter when it hits second and keeps it locked. Talk about a screamer! It's way faster then my Edge stacked ever was. I will have new numbers this next Saturday and will post back here. The Edge stacked gave me a 13.77. I'm betting on low 13's with this SCT tune from Eric. I'll post up after my runs.

Most tuners will not charge you for the first few files if things need tweaking, if a year later you want to do some changes then that is when you might be asked to pay an upgrade fee.

Let me clarify a few things about the Edge and peoples trans issues. When the original Edge came out it was as strong as the current Hot juice. Edge's instructions said to drive it for a 100 miles in the power setting that you wanted to run. Well, up to level 3 the shifting would be good, once you hit 4 or 5, the shifting went to hell. One of the problems was the defuel, you couldn't turn it off in levels 4 or 5 and so the trans would get all confused when the Edge defueled and it would slip the clutches. It only took a few times and then the direct clutches were smoked. This earned Edge a bad reputation. Then the platinum was released and it had a lower power level, this helped keep the trans happy plus I feel that Edge smoothed out there defuel issue. The Platinum does not plug into the transmission port on pcm so it is not controlling the trans in anyway comparable to the SCT tuning. Also many people on here have come close to the transmissions ability to hold power with an SCT and Nitrous, at this point the trans will start to go. I don't know of anyone who has smoked a trans with the Platinum. The Edge Platinum is a good box but when it comes to ultimate adjustability, trans life, and future upgrades you just can't compare it to the SCT. If you ever want to change a turbo or injectors then the SCT is the way to go.
