I'm 17 years old and just bought my first diesel. i was wondering if their was any tips i should know about preparing my truck for the winter and what to do in the winter.

plug it in at night, if you want, i like to.

and dont mash the pedal until the engine is warm.

white smoke on cold starts it just unburnt diesel, no worries, it clears up as your engine warms up.

have strong batteries.

Enjoy the cold weather and pray for snow. lol.

With that 97 of yours, I'd make certain that the glow plugs are in good shape. Also, keep an eye on your GP relay.

I had fuel gel on me once. This was before I got the bowl heater fixed. You might check the heater as well.

If you see that really cold weather is called for, you can pour in a bottle of PS or some other anti-gel formula. I only do it if we are getting down below 10-15 degrees F.
