I have access to a '79 Ford Bronco. I want to swap the 460 big block (I think is what it has) for a diesel engine. I was told that the 7.3 will marry well to the tranny w/o much extra (with the exception of a torque convertor).
Is this true? Is this too far off to achieve? What information am I missing, and if this will not work what engine will fit w/o too much fab?
My skills are limited, but possibilities are endless...just need to pick the right brains.
Please help. Thank you.

The transmission should mate up fine as long as your not trying to re-use your old bell housing, and a a 7.3L IDI will be much easier to put in than a powerstroke because of computer systems. And For Motor mounts from a 460 to a 7.3L should match up fine, IF not then im sure there are companies that make a polyurethane motor mount that will let it fit. And even if it does fit I personally would swap it out for some polyurethane mounts, because 30+ year old truck's motor mounts aren't gonna be in the greatest shape. Hope this helped.
