Which one and why? A lot of the Cummins swapped trucks are pushing some impressive numbers so let's try to get this tranny to live behind 500 or so Horse Power.

Let's get some cost numbers in here as well.

We'll start with the what seems to be the most contested...Allison 1000, 48RE and 5R110.

Let me know soon so I can add more if we need it.

I vote the 5r110.

Why?

Because its the only one of the three that I know of that can withstand 700+ hp beat downs and N2O in stock form without taking a dump all over the track.

It depends on what you plan on doing and if you are making it a 4x4 or not. The easiest would be the dodge, it'll mate up to the engine without an adapter. The Allison and ford will need adapters to mate them to the engine. All the transmissions would benefit from being beefed up to handle the power.

Thanks Brian. I really started this to poll this discussion off of your truck thread. I was planning on running my divorced 205 off of my 4500. The more I research the 205 the more I think going to the right case from Dodge would the better answer. Now I need to figure that out and source one.

I'll stop by Sun Coast while I'm in Fort Walton Beach. That should give me time to price the Allison in Slick and the likely 48RE I need to source for Chum.

Thanks Omega. I was just on most of those sites looking. I need a second job! $4240 for a 47RE or $4440 for a 48RE built, with TC and Controller; all Sun Coast retail.

why not go with a 203/205 doubler kit?

Length issues. 2WD transmission is longer; divorced stub shaft adds length...and so on.

#10 ·
ah I see, depending on which trans you choose I suppose.

#11 ·
Compared to the 4500, it looks like they are all longer. I'm still researching, though.

I choose the 48re.... why because when there built they dont break what so ever... the allison I beleive is over rated and I dont like te way it shifts... and the 5r100's tend not to like high hp with the eletronics..... really Iwould choose a 47rh

From what I gather if you get the controller from ATS the 48RE is the nuts. I'm still up in the air.

Garrett what transfer case do you have? I think I'm going to sell the divorced 205.

Garrett I was asking about the Dodge. I'm just researching what cases were in the Dodge trucks. I'm pretty sure I'll be looking for a set that bolts up. This is one where I really only want to buy the parts once.

I just learned something I don't like at all. The 47/48RE transmissions need a Dodge PCM for VSS signal. That has to be tied into the GM PCM for me to get the VSS signals. I haven't found a way to make these PCMs talk. It looks like a 47RH doesn't need this. That just made my decision a little easier.

thats why i said RH.

as for my t-case. i believe its an NV241. though im not sure if its a DLD or DHD.

Thanks Garrett. I was just looking at the difference between DHD and DLD. The Dodge part numbers I just found only list the DHD from '98-'00. But there are vendor's sites that have the DHD listed as '94+. I also saw something on another site that said the PTO cover designates a DHD. I'm still learning.

I just needed to make sure I was looking for the right parts.

Could be. I was hoping one of the Cummins-smart or Dodge-smart guys would chime in. It seems like the best place to look on-line requires a membership that costs $$$.

#23 ·
You know I'm of no help there. My underhood tag still says GM 6.0

I finally got paid for a few of my more recent trips. I can buy a new tranny now. I need some input. I will go over to Sun Coast, about 5 minutes from here, and see what they recommend as well. 47RH sounds like the winner now unless SC confirms that the GM VSS can signal their lock-up controller.

As it stands, I'm going to order a 47RH and 241 DHD. I'll sell my 4500 and 205 to off-set some of the cost.

sounds like it will be a killer combo no matter which you get.

I do not like ESOF. I still remember the first Blazer I had to work on that was equipped with that crap! I actually went to school to be a GM Tech. I wish I could still get a regular case in a DMAX without getting a base model.

I guess I will cast my vote now. I just got a deal on an Allison 1000 6-speed and going with Destroked kit to make it work. I need to find a 261HD case now.

#30 ·
I like the 47rh personally for an automatic because the ease of getting everything to work. I would like to try a 48re sometime. I heard there are guys running them without a controller at all. But IDK for sure.

I talked to a couple of builders and they all said any RE would require a Dodge PCM or TCM to work. I'm not really familiar with Dodge transmissions.

My search for 261 and braces continues. Oh, aftermarket Allison coolers are crazy expensive.

Why not just install a big Hayden or Hayes?
