3406b barrell and plunger

Hi Guy's, New to the site and wanted to see if any one has ever replaced a barrell and plunger on an B model cat before and is this something I can do myself? i've allready got the part just not sure and hate to pay Pete 7hrs.. Any help would be great thanks and great site.

If you buy a timing pin and spanner nut there are directions in the "mods and tech" section to do it, or an archive search

I have the "CAT" pins and the socket, the socket you have to buy, the pin I use a long about 5 inch 3/8 bolt and cut the threads off. The bolt will be a lot cheaper than the pin is.
The socket "CAT" number is 8T-5287
