Whining Noise...2003 6.0 L PSD.

I did a search but nothing seems to really compare to my problem.

First and foremost ...my 6.0 has been very good to me....no real problems other than standard truck maintenance issues.

The truck is starting and driving fine. No hesitation, I can hear the whistle of the turbo spooling but there is this whine its seems to be coming from the back fire wall.
When I start the truck in the morning, I turn the key let it go through its start up sequence then I hit the starter. But now before I hit the starter I hear this whine ...something like a electric motor seized drawing high amperage. It eventually trips off in a minute or less. I then hit the starter and my diesel starts up with no problems but then the whine is there again. Doesn't seem to change a hell of a lot when driving...there is some sound frequency changes to the whine when I hit the brakes or say hit the electric window button, or tap the gas (like when an electrical load comes on)....but the whining sound doesn't change much just slightly

any help in diagnosing the problem would be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance

Checked at lunch today. Doesn't appear to be the vacuum pump.

The sound appears to be coming from underneath at the back of the engine. I will have to get under the truck on the weekend and see where its coming from.

The truck still drives fine, starts fine, power is fine....unknown

Well, I thought I would report back to maintain this forums knowledge tank.

I was under the truck yesterday and listened to the whine...it seemed to be coming from the fuel pump...it was tought to actually pinpoint when the engine was running.

I was noticing when I turned the key to prime the pressure in the line to the injectors that the prime continued until it tripped out on O/L. So I put these two together and wondered if I got a bad batch of oil which plugged the filter and was causing a high dp across the filter. I always carry a spare fuel filter with me ...just in case.

Changed the fuel filters....and no more whine. Start up procedure and priming are back to normal.
Now I hop it didn't damage my injectors with the low line pressure from the loaded filter.
